Teachers engage in home visits during the year, call parents regularly to provide updates on the progress of their child’s learning, and meet with them before or after school when necessary. 100% of parents are expected to sign a “parent contract” which delineates the expectations of the parents and the school. Academic Directors meet with parents regularly in individual and small-group settings. All UNO staff and faculty also participate in a wide-variety of evening school activities that occur throughout the year, including monthly Family Literacy Nights.
We are proud of our strong parental involvement program which creates and sustains a vital link between home and school. UNO’s outreach coordinators engage parents to actively participate in the education of their children. This is done via frequent communication, home visits, school-sponsored family activities and an emphasis on accountability.
These parent relationships are linked to student achievement and are part of the natural progression of UNO’s community organizing activities.
