Management Philosophy
Management Philosohy
Through its years of work in education advocacy, UNO knows that effective management is essential if not more important to student success as curriculum and pedagogy. In UNO’s view, bad management at failing schools is a larger problem than outdated curriculum, untrained teachers, or run-down facilities.
With this in mind, the UNO emphasizes a solid management structure focused on the effective delivery and evaluation of its services. In this way, UNO demystifies the educational process and, as a result, builds efficient and results-oriented schools.
Localized Management
UNO breaks down the educational process into core components, which are managed locally. This system allows managers to analyze and adjust their performance directly and without a bureaucratic lag. It also provides opportunities for leadership development within the network.
Accountability
Through regular performance reviews, annual contract renewals, and audits of internal control, all UNO staff is rated against the highest standards and only those able to perform are asked to stay on board.
Staff Support
While its expectations are high, UNO also provides the support necessary to attain organizational goals:
Professional Development
UNO provides its faculty with more than double the amount of professional development training offered at traditional public schools in Chicago.
Master Teachers
UNO maintains full-time “Master Teachers” at each campus, whose sole responsibility is to conduct in-class reviews of teachers, followed up by one-on-one evaluations and trainings. Master Teachers also serve as mentors to UNO teachers, providing guidance and support throughout the school year.
